Pedro defines the project as purely ‘vagabond’ and ‘on the road’ photography, with no agenda and no particular strategy, drawing parallels with American photographers like Stephen Shore or William Eggleston who, with their powerful body of work, contributed to creating the collective visual identity of America. However Pedro is quick to point out that, because of its particular political history, Europe has never produced a standardised set of values and is thus still a scattered concept, which this series cunningly reflects.

‘Fort William’ depicts an image within an image: A previously photographed deer on the back of a truck seems to mirror the natural landscape behind, even to the point that the tonal ranges of both landscapes are strangely similar. An undeniable celebration of nature’s beauty, ‘Fort William’ also makes us question the very essence of representation versus reality. What’s real and what’s not?

‘European Affairs - Fort William, Scotland’ is an archival pigment print printed on 270 gsm Pearl Photo paper. The edition of 25 hand numbered and embossed prints has been approved by the artist and comes with a signed certificate of authenticity.

"Beautifully composed and rendered images by Pedro Guimaraes, which play on the notions of art and artifice in relation to nature and landscape, and motifs in 20th century photography, particularly early 20th Century American photographic art."
