Jane Boyer cites ‘opposition’ as one of her favorite pieces, quintessentially representative of her practice and its themes of living and identity. The work reflects her belief that no matter how different we may be, we still are very alike. The use of minimal color and nearly the same color in each shape suggests commonalities while the shapes differ, but only momentarily. Straighten the curve and it would be like the rod, and vice versa.
