Jane Bolden’s artwork is influenced by images and signs from early civilizations – paintings and marks in caves, the shape and textures of ancient stele, traces of habitation and patterns of urban landscapes. Her response is evoked through building her images up in layers of drawing, paints and inks on paper. The starting point for many of the works is a monotype. This is a unique print made by working directly onto a metal plate using printing inks and oils. The image formed is transferred onto paper. In nearly all the works shown here, the monotype has been enhanced by the use of collage.
