Joseph Doyle

John Bingham is a London-based artist known for his decorative abstract paintings and drawings. Ranging in both scale and medium, John’s work is centred around the act of mark making and the language of repetition. Inspired by the shapes and patterns of interior design, John works to produce art that has a strong and balanced aesthetic. Whether working in acrylics, fabric, pencil or mixed media, John does not shy away from colour, and instead explores the relationship between tone, colour, shape and material to produce a range of vibrant and versatile art.

John Bingham’s Education and Career

A fully fledged multi-disciplinary artist, John studied Painting at City & Guilds of London Art School, Sculpture at Wimbledon College of Art and Drawing at Camberwell College of Art. Taught by artists such as Grayson Perry, John’s training ignited his fascination in the role of the artist. Debuting at The Other Art Fair established John Bingham as a contemporary abstract artist and led to his 2012 collaboration with TOMS. Since then, John’s work has been a favourite in the editorial world, published in magazines including Dazed & Confused, Flux and Traction Magazine.

Process and Inspirations

John typically begins each piece by producing marks with a pencil, paint or digitally on his iPhone. Whether abstracting recognised shapes or rejecting the subject entirely, John invites the viewer to take their own meaning from his art. John’s art is greatly influenced by conceptual art, taking inspiration from Tracey Emin and Barry Reigate.
